Fushigi Yuugi ( Mysterious Play ) is a 18 volume shoujo manga created by Watase Yuu for Shogakukan's
Flower Comics. The manga later became a 52 episode TV series. Fushigi Yuugi is a fantasy that takes place
in ancient China. Filled with martial arts action, drama, romance, and comedy, you get one great piece of
animation.
It is about two high school students, Miaka and Yui, who discover a book titled " The Four Gods of the Earth and Sky " at a closed off section of a library. The prologue of the book explained of a girl who was transported to another land. What the girls didn't know is that the prologue is actually an incantation to transport them there ! Unknowingly they read it and are teleported into the world of The Four Gods of the Earth and Sky. Miaka becomes the legendary protector of Konan country, Suzaku no Miko. She must gather all of her shi chi seishi, seven star warriors, which are marked by a kanji character somewhere on their bodies. By doing this, Miaka is granted three wishes and a means of returning home. From there the story unfolds . . .
